Senior Medical Equipment Technician
Reporting To: Medical Electronics Manager / Team Leader
Grade: Technical
Role Duration: Permanent 37.5 hours per week
Purpose of the role (What is the value added by this role, the overall aim, the reason that this role is required)
To provide prompt, high quality and professional engineering support to a broad range of medical equipment. Including Acceptance Testing, Repairs and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM).
Key skills required include repairing and maintaining medical equipment, an in depth understanding of patient safety and the ability to work accurately and safely under pressure.
Key Accountabilities What are the main responsibilities of the role, against which performance is measured)
- To ensure equipment is maintained correctly, ensuring patient safety
- To ensure equipment is repaired correctly, on time, first time
- Carry out repairs and planned preventative maintenance on equipment as required, in accordance with local policies and OEM recommendations
- Carry out Acceptance Testing of new equipment and loan equipment
- Safety test equipment
- Condemn and de-commission equipment
- Prioritise multiple demands, as required
- Ensure contractual Key Performance Indicators are met
- Liaise with and assist OEMs
- Keep full and accurate records of all work carried out, in accordance with Asteral procedures
- Maintain essential stock records
- Develop service checklists and work instructions
- Responsible for informing of any health and safety concerns you identify and for completing an adverse event form for any accidents, incidents or near-misses that happen to you or that you are aware of to reduce injuries or loss
- Confidentiality of all matters that may be learnt in the course of employment, meeting the requirements under the Data Protection Act
- Any other relevant duty that assists in the smooth operation of the Medical Electronics Department
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of developments in the field of medical device technology
- Attend appropriate user, technical and other training courses, meetings and/or conferences
- Seek to gain knowledge/experience in related Biomedical Engineering fields to expand company opportunities and for personal development
- Provide guidance and supervision to the technical work of other Asteral engineers as appropriate
- Provide support to clinical users in operation and set up of equipment as required
- Participate in the training of Clinical staff as necessary and demonstrate the correct, safe and accurate use of medical equipment
- Participate in the operation of the computerised inventory and work recording system (Optim)
- Delivery and collection of medical equipment to clinical areas
- Equipment decontamination in accordance with Trust Infection Control Policy
- Assist in monitoring the quality of the service provided
- Assist in the training and induction of new staff

Specialised Medical Engineering experience in the Operating theatre environment and equipment commonly associated with this area

Good working knowledge of appropriate national regulatory standards

Has attended a range of OEM or other appropriate device specific training works and is in possession of relevant certificates

Equipment Library Co-ordinator
Reporting To: Equipment Library Manager / Medical Electronics Manager
Grade: Technical
Role Duration: Permanent 37.5 hours per week, flexible shift pattern to cover 07:00 to 20:00 Equipment Library opening hours
Purpose of the role (What is the value added by this role, the overall aim, the reason that this role is required)
- Provide efficient and effective co-ordinator of items in the Equipment Library, which is based at the Peterborough Acute Hospital, but will also provide the library service to the MHU, CCC & Stamford Hospital
- Ensure items in the library are ready and fit for use
- Ensure requests are completed within agreed time frames
- Ensure collections are completed when items are no longer required, within agreed time frames

Performance Indicators (What criteria will be used to assess performance)
- Accurate and timely communication with Equipment Library Manager / Medical Electronics Manager
- Delivery of medical equipment to requesting clinical area, within agreed time ensuring that all durables are complete
- Collection of medical devices at allocated time or at request of manager, or minimally three times daily
- Ensure that returned equipment is fit for purpose by carrying out inspection and functional check on return to the Equipment Library is escalate to designated technician
- Maintain a basic knowledge of equipment function
- Advise the Equipment Library Manager / Medical Electronics Manager of any equipment issues that occur e.g. prescribing, advice on usage, maintenance, transportation or decontamination
- Respond to telephone requests for equipment
- Update voicemail message daily and check hourly for advice, requests for delivery / collection of equipment and action as necessary
- Record all requests for loans on form and enter details onto equipment database. Ensure all requests, including those unable to be honoured or requested out of hours are transcribed
- Ensure equipment is decontaminated in accordance with Trust Infection Control Policy, prior to collection and return to Equipment Library
- Assist in monitoring the quality of the service provided
- Assist in the training and induction of new staff
- Ensure that equipment returned or collected which is approaching planned maintenance date is isolated and removed from service
- Ensure that all battery powered equipment is recharged whilst in the Equipment Library

Field and site based Ultrasound Engineers
Reporting To: Radiology Service Delivery and Development Manager
Grade: Engineer
Role Duration: Permanent 37.5 hours per week
Purpose of the role (What is the value added by this role, the overall aim, the reason that this role is required)
To provide prompt, high quality and professional ultrasound engineering service, to approximately 105 ultrasound units as part of the Managed Equipment Services at the following locations, University Hospitals Leicester, Whittington (North London), Whipps Cross (East London), Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals, and others sites, as required.
Key Accountabilities What are the main responsibilities of the role, against which performance is measured)
- To ensure equipment is maintained correctly, ensuring patient safety
- To ensure equipment is repaired correctly, on time, first time
- Prioritise multiple demands, as required
- Arrange planned maintenance schedules
- Completion of planned maintenance
- Supporting customers needs
- Ensure contractual Key Performance Indicators are met
- General duties to ensure MES schemes are operationally delivered
